Finally recognition!!!
Calhoun O'Cockaigne still gets his CACIL and thus the title European coursing Champion 2009!
On 23 August 2010 I write the following article for the Dutch Deerhound Club magazine.
"It would happen to you!"
Last year I was still very enthusiastic and proud that my Calhoun O'Cockaigne had won the European Coursing Championship, on 1 July this year I received a letter from the Board of directors that the FCI has withdrawn its title. How can this be? To keep a long and difficult story short, it is tantamount to saying that, on the basis of statements by Frank Schmidt and Mr Martin Haas, both from Germany, the FCI believes that Calhoun would have walked his two qualifying matches too young.
If we read the Dutch regulations well, we will see as first important article that all greyhounds can get a starting license from 15 months. So also the big varieties. As a result, Calhoun also had a 15-month license. In the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium, in their national regulations, the large varieties are allowed to participate in a competition (national and international) from 18 months, but in France the large races of national competitions can take part from 15 Months. Nowhere, even in the international Ren and coursing regulations, does a greyhound have to run its qualifying competitions for the European Championships in his native country or whether it should be international or national competitions. There is also nowhere that a Dutch greyhound also has to keep the Dutch national Ren-en Coursingreglement abroad. (A French greyhound is not allowed to participate in a national competition in the Netherlands with 15 months, he must be 18 months because he then runs through the Dutch rules).
So Calhoun has walked for 15 months, two qualifiers during a national PVL in France, like several Dutch and French greyhounds.
We therefore find it very unjustified that the FCI Calhoun's title and the CACIL has withdrawn and are therefore engaged in a legal process to challenge it.
From that moment on I am trying to get right through the appropriate channels, but unfortunately it is not that easy to go. A lot of back and forth is written and mailed and eventually it ends up at the CdL. A body that really does not have anything to do with it because the FCI forgives the title and in this case has also withdrawn. The CdL brings it to vote twice during meetings but the majority vote against giving the title back to Calhoun. By now I have taken a lawyer, Anne-Greet van der Wal, in the arm and again a thick letter has gone to the board of Management. Yes, direct contact with the FCI is not allowed. The dossier grows into a huge pile of all the same letters, council statements and requests for additional data as it is now really in the process but… Nothing happens. Beginning 2016 shows that everything has been lost and Anne-Greet resends the writing. And sure enough…. On Friday 25 March I received an e-mail from Mrs. Sabet of the Management board. She shared that she had just received notice from the FCI regarding Calhoun. The FCI Executive Committee has renegotiated the request for the CACIL to Calhoun and they had decided the following:
"It was further agreed to re-confirm the CACIL awarded to Calhoun O'Cockaigne, Deerhound, NHSB 2683124 at the CACIL coursing of Marianske Lazne (CZ), July 2009. The CACIL award will be sent by post to the BOM in the next days.
The titles of European coursing Champions are issued by the CMKU or the organizing club of the event ".
I have had to read the writing several times to be able to realise that it is now finally, after almost 6 years of fighting for it, succeeded!
A few weeks later I was allowed to receive the CACIL by post. No accompanying writing, no excuses, nothing at all attached to the FCI. But, of course, it is also very difficult to admit that it was terribly dumb to listen to two Germans who have no knowledge of things.
Meanwhile, I have applied for Calhoun as well as the international coursing Championship. Hopefully that won't take 6 years!! Of course it is also very difficult because they have to use the international Ren and Coursingreglement of 2011, the year in which Calhoun obtained his last CACIL. We are waiting for it.
An extremely black day.
January 6, 2015, an extreme black day for O ' Cockaigne; I have had to take the inevitable decision to make Calhoun sleep.
It started sometime in October; Calhoun coughed so very occasionally and of course the alarm bells were ringing. The first place where metastases of bone cancer emerge is in the lungs. So we made an appointment for October 30th in Terneuzen with Johan de Vos. On the long photographs that were made then no metastases can be seen but a strange white spot above Calhoun's heart, between the bronchi. The week on it was the opportunity to make an ultrasound to see what exactly that was. It was hard to see but the diagnosis was; Heart base tumor. There is still no official treatment for this, but the oncologists have already achieved very good results with certain drugs. So I went loaded with a cooler and a bag of medicine out the door. After three days Calhoun got high fever. One of the drugs could cause this but after I had stopped for quite some time, and with everything actually, the fever continued to flare up. All kinds of antibiotics have been passed. In the end Calhoun responded the best to Xeden or Marbocyl and Prednoral. Meanwhile, Calhoun lost his appetite and therefore his energy resulting in muscle decrease. Of the nearly 50 kilos he used to weigh, he now weighed only 38. There were also all kinds of blood tests, including heart worm and Pancreatitis to explain the fever. On 21 November another echo made his belly to see if the pancreas looked abnormal. Absolutely not so. Also all the other bodies looked good. Then Calhoun was again a fever-free period and started again with the chemo in pill form and other medications against his heart tumor. Three days later, Calhoun again had a fever stopped with the medicines. We then decided to make a CT scan on December 15. After a long study the conclusion was drawn that it was not a heart base tumor but a cancerous lymph node. This pressed his esophagus partially close and also in his small left lung lobe was a small scoop to be seen. After a long reflection, a lot of thinking and contemplation, we decided to let Calhoun operate in Ghent. The surgeon, Bart van, is very skilled in this type of operation and he gave Calhoun a decent chance to survive. Unfortunately, Christmas and New Years were at the door, so the operation was scheduled for January 6, 2015. And this was just too late. Meanwhile, Calhoun deteriorated. He stood on nierdieet in canned feed form supplemented with white bread and spaghetti, at least this was almost liquid so that he could put it into the slob. But after a week he had to eat smaller bites and had to go slower to avoid accumulation in the esophagus. When he drank and kept his head too low, the water ran out of his beak again. He regularly felt troubled by fever attacks and had no more fut to walk. Because of this he became increasingly slacker. Sometimes he had good days and he walked another round but then he was also ready for the rest of the day. With old and new we have still fled to France to avoid the fireworks, there he could not stop at all. Luckily he had a fever-free period and felt pretty good. He liked it, a new environment, new pieces for walking but his bad condition prevented nice, big walks. 6 January, early morning, for me and Calhoun far too early, in the car and towards Ghent. Fortunately, not too much delays on the way because I was already stressed enough. When I arrived I asked if it was not wise to make a CT scan first to see if a lot has changed. Unfortunately, there was no possibility, only the next day but then the surgeon could not wait and another week could not. After consultation nevertheless decided to operate. We had agreed that if it went well and the tumors could be well removed, one of the assistants would tell me but it was a ' mission impossible ' then Bart would come to say it. After two hours of waiting I saw Bart appear…. Unfortunately, in those three weeks, the tumour had grown in such a way that it fell heavily against it. He had grown over a length of 20 centimetres around the esophagus and also partially in it, and he also pressed the esophagus close to the mouth and had grown into the right lung. It was no longer possible to remove all of this. Yes, and then you can not do anything but give permission to make Calhoun sleep. I have waited heavily for the Calhoun to take home again, after a small hour he was back in the car. When we drove there, a cat crossed, I still said; "Look, Calhoun, a cat!" but his beloved head did not appear next to me.
International Herfstcoursing at RONO Beach.
The Chart Polski by Ciska and Ruud. The ' Herfstcoursing ' of WvCNL took place this year during the weekend of 18 and 19 October. Since Simon was divided both days to judging we left Thursday so we had a relaxed day on Friday. Sonja also came with her new motorhome so Brandir and Bernice could spend a nice weekend with each other. On Friday both could participate in the training. We would let Bernice run first and if she would not start, we would send Calhoun and brandir with it. But after some doubt, Bernice put it on a walk and walked the stars of heaven! Would she like to find it again? After Bernice so brandir with Calhoun. Brandir was as usual not to keep it though… He also started Super fanatic! At one time, without looking at Calhoun, he went behind the hare. What were we happy! Would he also like to find it again? That would be fantastic. In Total, 246 hounds had been adopted for the coursing and because of this large number, it was decided to walk on two tracks simultaneously. We expected the second route to be plotted on the other side of the water, but the association that had been invited to take care of this was not safe enough. The conscious Association was WCW out Hopee (Germany). I personally, and several with me, found this to be a wrong choice given the enormous commotion that F.S. has caused in Germany a.o. By committing fraud with Coursinguitslagen. The way in which he is allowed to exercise functions in sport is also extremely dubious. Many oudleden of the DWZRV have already said their membership to what is a great loss for the association. It is in and in sad that one person has been able to harm the DWZRV so much. Three Galgos The beauty of the mop was that the trail that this association had plotted on the right part of the beach was really dangerous. The hare was pulled through a wooden/metal seat and a thick tree. If two hounds would walk in between and accidentally bump each other, either one of them could be considerably injured. This route had to be adjusted on Saturday morning. On Saturday, Afghans, Azawakh's, Barsoi's, the Chart Polski, Deerhounds, Galgos, Irish Wolfhounds, Italians, Magyar Agar's, Pharaoh's, Podencos, Podengo's and Sloughi's were walked. On Sundays the Whippet's and Saluki's. It will be me, but I really do not understand the judging. It used to be the intention that the hounds would be judged in such a way as if it were a real hunt. So if they could catch the hare, they got a good assessment and made an error that had a chance of being looked at, they got a bad assessment. Well, today, as a hound, you can run out of the field without looking at the hare and what happened here on RONO a few times; You land as a hound in the water and only come out when the hare is so far away that you can never catch it again. Even then you can still win! That happened, among other things At the winner of the "Deerhounds". I wholeheartedly support her but I think it is not entirely in accordance with the rules. Fiddle both days the award ceremony was very chaotic. This did not come by the organization but by the disinterest and the undisciplined behaviour of the participants. Everyone kept talking to each other and on Saturday it had to F.S. If necessary, let loudly know that a German hound had gotten too few points in his idea, even though this Galgo had won! It's a pity, the cosiness of the past is far to find, maybe it just gets too big. Luckily there were some nice courses to admire and it was fine again.
A hot Tüttleben.
On Tuesday 3 June, beginning of the afternoon, we left towards Dortmund. Here we stayed at the camper pitch where Sonja and I always stand when we go to the show. It is a quiet place and you can enjoy walking with the hounds. At the same time we are already a thick 250 kilometer from home and thus almost half way to Tüttleben. It has now become a tradition that we are going to Tüttleben with Pentecost. Simon is classified by default to build and run the course before and during the coursing and I had promised this year to act as ringmaster on Saturday 7 June in the ring at the Jahresausstellung of Group 5. Given the experience of last year, that the Coursingterrein was not cut and totally under water, we decided to be there on Wednesday so that Simon had no stress and time to come, had all the time to put away a good route. The terrain was beautiful, grass not too high but also no billiard sheet, Simon was very quick to finish his trail. He had placed the start this time in the middle of the terrain and only the left part was put into use. There was a challenging trail of about 850 meters long, given the expected temperatures, long enough. On Wednesday it was still good to do in terms of temperature; We even made a big walk with the hounds. The rest of the days we could forget this, it was too hot. Calhoun soon searched for his spot; Under the caravan. Every hour he moved a bit further so he had a cool piece again. It is always miraculous how he saves himself with those three legs, he was even once again early in the morning under the tent canvas by crept to go hunting. Unfortunately for him, there stood around a fencing so that he did not come far. Against the six o'clock he stood again in front of the tent door beeping that he wanted, because yes, back under the tent canvas, that is not possible!! This region has already been extracted in many areas, and he continues to do so, and I have to think about it if we stand somewhere where there is no fence. Thursday and Friday I had "holiday", a little Brandir Showklaar make, the others comb but especially not to move too much because it was thick 35 degrees in the shadows! Saturday was the show. Sonja would show Brandir and Bernice under Mr. Tomasz Kuszyk from Poland. Also Fortheringhay's Faerwald Fable, Brandir's big "competitor" was reported in the Open class and another bitch in the Open class at Bernice. Fable went with the CAC and BOB off, Brandir with the reserve and Bernice with the CAC (the other bitch only stayed in Ambling walk). So I was in Ring 1 at the Podencos, Pharaoh's, Podengo's and Cirneci at work. The judge for these races was Mr. Manuel Borges from Portugal. Of course I had studied the standards beforehand so that I knew what to look for and fortunately the judge said loud and clear the report so that I could follow it perfectly well. It was really worth it since there were several copies of e.g. The Podenco Canario were present. I am delighted that I have had this opportunity and have put a lot of effort into it. Sunday morning we had to bed early. The starting time of the coursing was set at 7 o'clock due to the expected temperatures. This meant that Sonja had to go out of bed for fives as she did the notification. Simon and I came out against the six. Brandir and Bernice were the only registered Deerhounds and walked as one of the first. Brandir started off well but Bernice doubted again. Brandir looked at where his sister stayed and once she went, they walked the stars of heaven. What can those two walk! Of the initially 49 courses for the first circulation, approximately 45 remained. Fortunately, there were enough employees who took their duties seriously and because of this it ran like a train. Against elves the last course had been walked and the temperature had now reached almost 30 degrees. It was decided that there was no second turn and that was good as well because in the course of the afternoon the temperature went up to thick 38 degrees in the shade! And the only thing that you can still do is take a nap! After two was the award ceremony and Brandir got a delicious sausage as price for beauty and performance. He and Bernice also got a beautiful rosette for their coursing performance. Sunday again asked out of bed because after nines you could no longer run with good decency with the hounds, it was all too hot for the oldies. There were almost half fewer hounds reported for the second day of the coursing and due to the warm weather (and other reasons), eleven more were logged out. This brought the number of courses for the first circulation to about 22. All employees put everything in order to make the courses as smooth as possible and even manage to run a record number of courses in an hour. Without a break, the second turn was started against Nines and at five minutes before half past eleven the last hounds ran their second course! If this is not a world record….!! Again at half past three the awards ceremony. This is always very atmospheric and cosy. All employees are extended thanks both days and the Hounds who say goodbye are brought forward and conceived under appropriate music. This always supplies wet eyes to a number of people, this to the hilarity of the bystanders. Afterwards we drank a nice glass of sect on the good course of the weekend. After this, the shadow soon and also Katja, the president of the club, knew where she could be pamper. Tuesday was lazybones day but again warm and stuffy. In the evening there is still a coursingtraining that Calhoun was very happy with. Together with Brandir and Bernice he walked a short trail of about 450 meters. Caintha really liked it too but I still thought it was too hot for her, she has after all been in charge for eleven years! Wednesday morning we could pack the tent wet, it had geonweerd and rained but it was not very cooled. Against elves we drove away to arrive at half past six in the evening. Meyappan, Meyappan, it's always a short tuffs but definitely worth it!
3 x International Champion of beauty and performance!!!
Two years ago I requested the title "International Champion of Beauty and performance" for Cheytah, Caintha and Calhoun.
Calhoun O'Cockaigne Cheytah O'Cockaigne
After much mailing back and forth, I was finally able to receive the three confirmations last week. Hurray!! It is a bit sad since Cheytah is no longer among us, Calhoun unfortunately can no longer officially participate in Coursings and Caintha is already 11 years and almost 3 months. They are the first and so far the only Dutch Deerhounds with this title. Also all three bred by me and Caintha is the aunt of Calhoun and Cheytah, they are brother and sister.
In order to get the title "Champion International de Beauté et Performance" The Hound must have obtained three CACIB's or 2 CACIB's and 2 reserve CACIB's in, at least, 2 different countries under at least 2 different electoral masters. The period between the first (reserve) CACIB and the latter must be at least 1 year and 1 day. Also, the hound must at least have participated in 3 CACIL events (coursing or running) and have won at least 1 CACIL or 2 reserve CACIL's.
Calhoun's first three legged birthday!
Calhoun's first three legged birthday!
Yesterday we drank only one bottle of sect; Calhoun's first three legged birthday! But for this we made a lovely walk in the Mastbos with lots of water, wind and especially mud. Calhoun and Brandir were constantly in the weather and I therefore also to keep them with me. Calhoun's ears went up regularly and Brandir was able to read this language in the meantime. Brandir is also becoming more free and disappears from sight. Fortunately he listens very well to the whistle and in no time stands with me to receive his biscuit. Of course they all get a biscuit so I have to make sure that the Buideltje is well filled! Very sorry I didn't have a camera with me, I could have shot beautiful pictures. But a few weeks back we were on the way to take the Christmas picture and of course we made some more pictures. So this is not the Christmas picture, which you can find under O ' Cockaigne Deerhounds-photos-Christmas pictures. This year we didn't need much time to take the picture. With only four hounds it's a lot easier but still they always cops to jump on all sides after a couple of pictures and see them once again to get a neat list! Sometimes we make 50/60 pictures and there's nothing in it to my liking, also it happens that we drive two times somewhere to take the picture. Very often there is always one that looks duf or close the eyes, just stands to yawn or with crossed legs standing. Yes, and of course that is not possible! Calhoun is doing really very well. He is also happy and lifelong. Every day he plays with Brandir and also shows that he is still the boss. He is still pretty fast but also knows very well with his powers to go. If it is pointless to chase behind Brandir, or if it is a difficult terrain with a lot of undergrowth and fallen tree trunks, Calhoun awaits a strategic place to take Brandir. He also knows exactly what he can and cannot do on three legs but I am very regularly looking at what he can do! There is a tremendous power in that one hind leg! I am very pleased that a year ago I took the decision to amputate Calhoun's Paw. My feeling that I had then, that Calhoun could handle it, has proven to be true. Hereby the happiness of early discovery and no metastases has resulted in me still enjoying my Calhoun every day and Calhoun can still enjoy life every day. And he does!!!
Calhoun will soon be celebrating its second birthday this month!
At the end of August, I got blood again at Calhoun. The creatinine was then 140. Not frighteningly high but higher than late July. On 10 October the weather had risen slightly, to 142. Since I did not see that rising line, I had made an appointment before 18 November with Mr R.J. Cantu. This doctor is specialized in nutrition and wanted to see if Calhoun's diet could be adapted so that his kidneys would be more well-known. I had already emailed Calhoun's complete nutrition list and during the consultation, Mr. Cantu told me that it was one of the better nutritional lists he had seen from private individuals. Also Calhoun's urine and blood were researched and now it turned out to be my fright the creatinine rose to 176! Also there was still some blood in his urine. Mr Cantu mailed me that same afternoon the result of the blood and urine tests with the necessary changes for the diet. Calhoun had to eat more, I also found him slightly too skinny, and there had to be more choline, zinc, iodine and less gistocal and no more garlic by his food. The 200 grams of boiled potatoes were 400 and the amount of mashed vegetables was also doubled. Calhoun became a potato eater! The meat I kept at about 200 grams. Luckily he ate it well but soon I noticed that it was very much. He arrived within 11 days a thick half kilo, which was fine but really much heavier he should not be because then his joints are taxed too much. By now I had an appointment with Johan de Vos. On Friday 29 November a CT scan would be made to see if there were any metastases.
The days before November 29th I had quite a bit of nerves. How would it look? How high would the creatinine be now?
First of all, Calhoun was well looked at and felt. No strange things. Then his blood and urine were examined again. For his urine I have to make another ultrasound because there is still some blood in it. But then came the first good news, the creatinine was again sunk to 141! That goes again in the right direction! Also the other values were slightly lower. Then an X-ray has been taken to see if there were any metastases. If they were already on an X-ray, we didn't have to make a scan anymore. That would be a waste of money and time. But……. The X-ray looked beautiful! Nothing to see, at least no metastases. So Calhoun and prick got to go to sleep and was pushed into the scanner a little later. After a small half hour he passed and I was left with him in a room to let him wake up. Now the scan was viewed and I was told that everything looked fine! What a relief, no metastases to see, Calhoun may have a while on this kind of bastard running around!! It is of course not a guarantee and next month it may be different but we are now almost a year after the amputation so we have good hope that it will continue to go well for much longer. So on December 21st we draw a bottle of sect open on Calhoun's second birthday, last December 2 he was 6, 21 December he becomes 1!!!
We hope to do so often! A playing Calhoun! and a coursing Calhoun!
Calhoun enjoys.
Last weekend, Sonja was visiting with Lavinia, Silva and Bernice. Because of the predicted bad weather in Germany, she has come Wednesday. Thursday we wanted to make a nice walk with the hounds but when we had them in the car I saw that my right front tyre was leaky. The hounds looked at us with disbelief when we said they had to come out again. Then just a walk in the area. This is of course not so much fun because then Brandir and Bernice can not loose and also Calhoun has to run the biggest piece on the leash as they are different by the young strawberries and other crops. But yes, it was no different. Fortunately we were able to get the band repaired that same day so we could at least take the days here after Nice. Friday before the walk to thirst. Here is a large losloop area with little game and even less roads. This was of course big fun for Brandir and Bernice but also Calhoun enjoys here. Nothing is more fun than with his two or threes (he prefers to do Silva too) to chop on Brandir. At some point Brandir can't do it anymore. Bernice bites him in his buttocks and Calhoun grabs him by his neck. In the end Brandir gives himself won and fail on the ground. Now we are just ending by calling Calhoun with us. Brandir is relieved and draws another sprint with Bernice. We're only just 15 minutes on the road and Bernice is already looking like this!
And our Speelgoedhound Cody, so.
The walk continues and Calhoun makes it regularly exciting by putting his ears in the end. Nothing is lost to him but fortunately the deer have withdrawn safely.
Caintha also wants to play with Brandir but as usual, Bernice also has to interfere with it.
After an hour of walking, which is enough for Lavinia, Cody, Caintha and Calhoun, Brandir and Bernice can still romp around at home while Calhoun takes it. On Saturday we set out on a field in the woods of disk a small piece of coursing for Brandir, Bernice and Calhoun. Brandir started again perfectly and we also let him run with Bernice. I was afraid he was going to play but also this went fine! A very reassurance, as he will have to do this in the short term. Since Calhoun had seen that Simon had done the turning device in the car, he also had to walk a bit. It's incredible but since he's missing his hind leg he's so super motivated that you just can't refuse it! There seem to be a number of people who are struggling to make Calhoun do what he has done all his life. These people have no idea of Calhoun's mental and physical condition. He has no pain, is not sick, is in very good physical condition, he eats well, he drinks well, he is playful and he is cheerful. Since he has losgelopen from puppy in the most wild areas he knows exactly how to deal with his body, even now on three legs. The people who are worried can do this better to the hounds that appear with a very bad condition or crippled on the Coursingterreinen. As long as it goes well with Calhoun I let him do what he wants and for what he is born; Hunt.
Flamingo Calhoun
The Thursday before the Jahresausstellung of 2013 in Germany, we were at Sonja in Hermannsburg. The two young neighbour girls of Sonja were fascinated by so many of those big Gray hounds together and came to take a look.
When the youngest saw Calhoun she said to her sister; “Look, he can retract his paw very high!”
Complaint about Calhoun!
Last week there was suddenly a very nice gentleman with us on the pavement. When he was halfway through the terrain he was of course noticed by the hounds and exuberantly greeted by Caintha, Brandir and Calhoun. Once we came to our house, the best man expressed himself as a controller of the dog or animal protection, I do not know anymore. He told Calhoun that he was looking for a complaint because of the fact that Calhoun coursing had walked! I told him that he had just been stormed and greeted by Calhoun and that so it went fine with him. Then I called Calhoun and the best man couldn't say anything other than that Calhoun looked beautiful. The other hounds and how they live here, gave him the same. Of course, there was talk about Calhoun's courses, but the gentleman soon had to say that the complaint didn't hit anything. I told the best man that Calhoun was already a puppy of 5 to 6 weeks behind the plastic patch and that he kept doing all his life, plastic and real. Also that during a normal walk or round-racing here on our own terrain behind Brandir on, 100 times more intensively than such a small piece of "coursing" what he did during the trainings of an association or our own Coursingfeestje. The nice gentleman made notes and showed clearly that he had the feeling for nothing to have come. And that was of course the case. When I accompanied him back to his car, he said, "It's a paradise for those dogs." And yes, it's not for nothing to be called O ' Cockaigne.
I do have a suspicion of who has hurled this. I just want to say that it was/is laughable and that I very much think it is wasting precious time of people who are really desperately needed in a lot of other places and that it is a waste of money that has cost this action. I therefore propose to the person responsible to make a substantial donation to the body where he has lodged this complaint. That would be really sporty!!
The days after Crowns mountain.
Since I had made an appointment for Bernice in De Bilt for control of her Panostitis, Sonja stayed with us until Wednesday. Tuesday so to De Bilt where Annika Bernice would investigate. There was clearly improvement in her Thymus energy but the kidney energy was still much too low. That is why we need to work further. But because Bernice has no more pain and she was aartslui because she was recently running, we could let them romp without having to brake them, so Bernice himself did. The walks we made were tuned to the elderly club. With one of almost 12 and three out of 10 years, you don't have to walk for hours, also a small hour for Calhoun is also enough. He makes sure he gets enough movement. So also Wednesday afternoon. Barely arrived in the woods he had disappeared, Bernice and Brandir in his wake. After a few minutes, Brandir and Bernice were back, Calhoun took a little longer. Moments later they shot again, but then it took much longer before Calhoun was back again. He had already done enough, but fortunately there was a nice lake in the area where you can have a good stay. Nothing is more delicious than with a just well-combed coat to enter the water! Lavinia was slightly ahead of the water after she had gone under the Weerijs of the week before we left. Calhoun always enters the floppy, but now the others thought they could. Not so. I had to help Lavinia out of her neck water because the side was too steep, too blubberig and she was trapped in the aquatic plants. I had to help the rest of the elderly club with a butt up. Once again up geklauterd I was sitting from head to toe under the dredge and Sonja but laughing! Yes, and when you come to a piece of sand after water, the gate of the dam is. As usual Brandir is the pineut.
Coney is also involved.
After Calhoun, Brandir, Bernice and Caintha had cleared the field, Coney surrendered a "shrub". When all the branches have been shaken off, Silva can still play with the "Bare Hare".
A pass on the place for Calhoun.
After having received his 7th chemo cure on June 4, Calhoun, he has been lousy for a few days. Lifeless, diarrhea and not eating said me more than enough. On the 1st of July we went back to Terneuzen and his blood was also watched in his urine. It turned out that there were traces of blood in his urine, and some blood values were too high. So… no chemo and after a week come back for an extended echo of his guts to see where that blood comes from. June 9, on the echo everything looked fine; No distortions, no visible metastases, no bleeding, nothing was there to see what the blood in the urine could explain. But there was still some blood in it and his creatinine was even slightly higher than the week before. The only explanation for the blood in the urine is that the kidneys are slightly damaged inside, so Calhoun must be on a nierdieet. That in itself is no problem at all, especially not with Barfen, and Calhoun eats everything I do to him. Meanwhile we went to De Bilt and Tomas was very satisfied with Calhoun. He hamzah no negative things only showed indeed the medulla of the kidneys what to be affected. After a good acupuncture treatment, we were reassured to go home again. Before the 31st of July we have an appointment with Johan de Vos and we hope that the values will come back.
Pressure, pressure, pressure.
Finally I have time again to report some about the O'Cockaigne hounds. Almost the whole month we have been on the road with hounds and caravan. But I start with April 20. On this day was the show in Goes. For this I had Brandir enrolled in the Youth class. Only three Deerhounds were reported; Prince of Jasper and Ineke, Bibelot of Marijn and Brandir. Prince became BOB and Brandir got the reserve CAC. He now has one point for his Dutch youth Championship and as the CAC moves on, also a tip for the "adult" championship.
On Tuesday, April 23, Calhoun received his 6th chemo cure. In the meantime he loses a lot of hair but where it was practically bald, it starts to grow again. He didn't respond so well to this "last" cure. He has not eaten for a long time and has therefore fallen pretty well. He was also very quickly tired and did not make much sense in walking. Since Johan de Vos wants to deal with him again, we had an appointment before 10 May. First blood pricking and checking and then we would take long pictures. The blood results were not so smash hit, some values were too high and it was decided that no chemo would be given. The long pictures looked "beautiful". HIEP!!!! That was at least something! In the meantime Calhoun is again completely the old and Tuesday 4 June we go again to Terneuzen for possibly its next chemo cure. On Thursday the 2nd of May we headed for Berlin. The night was halfway by Sonja, Brandir did not know what he saw when his sister came to greet him! The next morning we drove all the way to Göhlsdorf, Simon was invited to join the international coursing judging and I was asked to approve during their CAC show. The coursing would take place on a large fenced lawn and fortunately the hounds could stretch the legs here on Friday afternoon. But of course there also had to be walked. Saturday morning, Simon, Angelika and Sonja went on the road and soon left the majority of the 9 hounds. It was immediately hit, several hares had to choose the Hazenpad and Calhoun got red wild in his nose and was right away. After a thick 15 minutes he came exhausted back, which had walked enough for the rest of the day! And Simon had enough stress for the rest of the weekend, which left Calhoun (fortunately) no more loose! The weather was extraordinary, almost 30 degrees but with a little wind so it was still well toefen. Only for a big walk it was soon too hot for our elderly club; 3 of 10 years and 1 of 11.5. On Saturday so the show, Sonja showed Brandir, Bernice and Silva. There were 9 Deerhounds reported, 8 present. Brandir and Bernice got their first YOUTHCAC and Brandir became JeugdBOB. BOB and BIS became the Kilbourne Harvest Moon, the brother of the father of Brandir and Bernice, living in Finland. Sunday, the coursing for which two Finnish Deerhounds were reported. One of them was blixen the Great Scott, this male had walked with Calhoun in the Czech Republic during the EKC in 2009. It was clear to see that he was a day old! Monday morning we all left again. We first went to Tüttleben to put our caravan there before the Pentecost weekend. From here we drove home on Tuesday.
Thursday, May 9th we had the Deerhound club match. Brandir became third in his class, Coney won the veteran class and Caintha was third in this class. Friday morning 10 May so first with Calhoun to Terneuzen. Then quickly get some stuff in the car, Calhoun out and Brandier Erin and head towards Dortmund. Sonja had left with me at the same time so that we would arrive roughly right in Dortmund. Unfortunately, Sonja landed in more traffic jams than me and I was there before. After a short fifteen minutes brandir and Bernice could greet each other again and we made a lovely walk in the large nearby park. Saturday was the VDH-Europasieger-Ausstellung in the Westphalia halls. 18 Deerhounds reported, 17 present. Brandir won the Youth Class (2) and got his second YOUTHCAC, Europe became Jugendsieger and JugendBOB. Bernice was not reported. For the Sunday there were 9 Deerhounds reported and all present. Brandir was now the only one in the youth class and was given a ZG because he was too young. Why do you sign a young dog in the Youth class???? Surely you can't expect a male of less than a year to finish??!! Luckily we could get away early so we could pack everything quietly and at the end of the afternoon I was back home. Wednesday morning we left again towards Tüttleben where we arrived around three. Angelika and Sonja were there a little later. After having installed everything again, we first took a glass of sect. It was delicious again and the enjoyment could begin. Although I have to admit that I still have to say that I did not travel to the world exhibition in Budapest. For this show I had reported in November Calhoun, Brandir and Bernice. Unfortunately, the bone cancer at Calhoun was reported. I still tried to replace him with Coney but got zero on the petition. Bernice continued to suffer from her panostitis and I decided not to go. Because just to travel with brandir that end and feel in it and in sad because of Calhoun, I didn't feel like it either. Anyway, then make the best of it in Tüttleben. Brandir and Bernice had a lot of fun together and together with Angelika and Sonja we stripped Cody on Thursday of his coat. In stages we shaved and cut him and when he was finished he felt like a young god again.
Saturday there were 6 Deerhounds reported for the show. Brandir got his 3rd and thus last YOUTHCAC and may now call himself German Youth champion (DWZRV) He was also JeugdBOB. Since he was also the only male, he was automatically the best dog and bunch, he had to make the course against Xena of Angelika, an adult bitch who later became BIS. Bernice got her 2nd Youthcac. At least she shows up very well, we are already very happy with it. Hopefully she will be even stronger in her work because that doesn't look very nice yet.
In the meantime it had often rained very violently and there were gigantic puddles everywhere, so also on the Coursingterrein. Sunday and Monday was the coursing for which Simon was asked to build, run and master the course. On Wednesday afternoon he had already started to turn it off there on Thursday morning the town would partially mow the pasture. At first, Simon had explained a nice long trail, but then it turned out that the chainsaw, normally an iron-strong rotary device, did not pull it. Everything went down again, shortened, extra cut, nothing helped. It really was on the chainsaw. Sin of the beautiful long trail! But because of the rain it was a very spectacular route, the people had to go through water but also the hounds, which of course gave great pictures for the photo dig. Also the Middenterrein of the racecourse, where Brandir and Bernice could go out of their roof every day, showed large puddles. Since Brandir is absolutely not a water rat, Sonja drew her shoes at a given moment and stepped into the lake. Bernice followed faithfully but Brandir trusted it for no penny. After many lures and candies offering, Brandir stepped gently into the puddle and sure enough, he walked by! Next, Sonja lured him a few more times and now he has not disappeared. Meyappan, Meyappan, what a wimp!
On Tuesday there was racecourse training. In recent years Calhoun has always done a round race course, he loved that! Also now I got him up for a round. When he heard the hare and saw he was not to keep! He jumped around and screamed of enthusiasm. When he finally took the turn, he dragged me past the Starthok and was barely able to wait until the hare came. He started out super enthusiastic and walked the whole round. No more Saluki times for Calhoun but he has enjoyed it!! Wednesday Kookdag. Sonja, Angelika and Simon would cook for about 20 men and leave, after the shopping, the kitchen. In comparison with two years back, when there were 60 people to eat, they didn't have much work. At seven o'clock we were able to sit at the table and as usual everyone loved it!
Because of the rain we decided not to stay any longer, Thursday packed up again and drove home in one jerk. Bergen laundry, a wet awning, a dirty caravan and my ceramics that I want to finish before the EKC at the end of June, ensured that there was little time left to bore us. Tomorrow we will depart again towards Lichtenvoorde where Renvereniging Swift organises a coursing for the first time for which Simon has offered his cooperation. Hopefully the weather is a bit like that.
Calhoun is living on the Coursingveld!
CC2000 had a wonderful weekend again!
Despite the great cold, during the Easter weekend we were a guest at mini camping "de Ganzenhof" in Bladel with our Coursingvrienden. Here we organized another delicious funcoursing on a large pasture. A small 60 hounds were reported there and only Talreja with her Barzoi's was not present by circumstances. Marc Gale lived again in his passion and made many beautiful pictures. Marc…. Thanks!!! Sonja was also back from the party and she was so sweet to bring a bag of home-baked biscuits for every participating hound. The hounds found them Héééérlijk!! Sonja, on behalf of everyone, thanks again!! For me this weekend had something very special. Brandir and Bernice had done something with us on a horse meadow in February, but never when there were other people and dogs. Despite the growing pains, Bernice ran well, and she was definitely not distracted. Once she has grown over this ailment, I think she will become a very good coursing hound. Brandir ran the entire trail very well following and all at a decent speed; A promise for the future. Caintha and Calhoun walked all day to whine that they actually wanted courses. Caintha is already 10 years old and I had said long ago that there was no more coursing but she wanted so much so I voted. Also Silva, almost 7 years young, wanted to stretch her legs again and finally we decided to Caintha, Silva and Calhoun at the same time to Coursingveld. A number of people looked strange when we appeared with this trio at the start. "What Crazy does a Deerhound with three-legged courses do?" But people had to know what Calhoun is doing on those three legs! I was already noticing Calhoun that it was serious and not like the last times; Fanatically walk to the start and then remain standing. Also Caintha was again old fashioned fanatic. At the start they were barely kept, they really felt like it. But we had told Simon to turn a small piece, about 300/350 meters was enough. The first piece they ran right away but they soon got a bit out of it, so we looked a bit less tense. Because yes, it was for the first time that Calhoun went behind the Nephaasje and on a collision we were not waiting. It was clear that they enjoyed all three of them and arrived at the reception it was also perfect. Simon knows exactly how to turn to avoid collisions. It was wonderful to see Calhoun again courses and he also found it blissful. I am glad that at the time I took the decision to let his paw amputate, he is doing so well. And I'm sure if I hadn't done it, I should have let him sleep long ago. I hope that several people, by Calhoun, are convinced that a large hound can live very well on three legs and have a lot of fun.
3 X 10 = 30!!!
Caintha, Cute Coney and Commander Cody 10 years Young!
Today, March 26, Caintha, Cute Coney and Commander Cody, have become 10 years old. A very respectable age! They are still very fit, walk along every day and play with Brandir. Caintha and Coney lived here all their lives, but Cody came back last June and has in no time adapted to our rhythm of life. With traveling he has no problem and the long walks he finds delicious. Cody is a real woolly but that makes him quite attractive. Most people still think he's a puppy, especially if he's gonna play with a stick or make crazy bokkesprong! There he is very good at it! Is it not a lovely little guy?!
We have been to "the most" today. A recreation area just across the border in Belgium. You can enjoy walking but the most important thing is that it consists of sand and water! And today there was also a severe wind! What does a greyhound want even more??!! Also Calhoun is doing brave!
Calhoun, still going strong!
In the meantime Calhoun has had his third chemo cure and fortunately again no nasty side effects. The first four days after administering, he gets Cerenia tablets against nausea and they do their job fine. He just keeps eating. Also the Peroxicam he still gets. However, he is currently losing his garnish. Also his paws are getting balder. But if that's the worst, I'll make sure. Johan de Vos has decided to Carboplatin Calhoun one time and the other time epirubicin to serve this in connection with the kind of osteosarcoma. Now but hope that the desired effect also reveals itself; Longer service life. However, Calhoun receives holistic support and recently Salvestrol. This seems to work very strongly celbeschermend and we have already heard very positive stories about it. So try it! In the meantime, we find that at Calhoun his hearing was in his linkerachterpoot. He barely listens, and certainly if he thinks something to see or wants to see something, he is gone. I can only walk a little behind him because he does not do it in principle. If I stay in his neighbourhood, and at some point the others give a biscuit loud and clear, he will come back again. It is difficult, because you have to take the time, as soon as you have an appointment there is no more. Keeping him on the leash is very difficult because his tempo is quite different and it is quite difficult for him to walk more slowly. If I want to walk so that it's easy for him, I have to jog. I like that, but not 20 minutes or longer! It is also quite frightening when he shoots behind, when something happens with his right hind leg we have a big problem. But yes, he still has to be able to stay a little himself and enjoy life.
Bernice and Calhoun.
Bernice is a real Calhoun fan!
Last week Sonja was here again for a few days, to let the puppies play with each other and to put Calhoun a heart under the belt. Brandir and Bernice of course went completely out of their roof, but because Bernice suffers from panostitis (growing Pains), we had to slow them down a bit. Bernice had a lot of interest in Calhoun from the beginning, she went to him every time and also with walking she wanted to walk next to him. Also this time she found him interesting. Apparently she has picked up more than we thought because a few days ago I received this picture of her. She had a paw amputated with one of her hugs!!! It goes very well with Calhoun. He has been chasing a hare and played with Brandir. The wound is beautifully cured and his fur begins to cover the scar a bit. Eating is not a problem, he's even too fat, but I prefer it to be too skinny and 5 times more chemo. I have no idea if he keeps eating as well. But for now I'm very satisfied.
Tuesday 8 January, an exciting day.
Chemo cure.
Yesterday, January 8th, Calhoun has had its first chemo cure. After an intake interview in which things were explained and after Johan de Vos had examined Calhoun, some blood was taken and examined. Fortunately this looked good, the alkaline phosphates were not increased and also Calhoun's kidney-values were okay. After this, we had Calhoun on his own dress at work height and the cannula was inserted. The chemo liquid, Carboplatin, was sprayed into the vein in two stages for 20 minutes. After this, it became a bit flushed with a physiological saline solution. Calhoun behaved all the time like a real Deerhound. No hassle or whining, while he still has very nasty experiences in the meantime. Afterwards he got a hand full of yummy biscuits which I expected he would not take. He is absolutely not corrupt and if he does not have the same meaning, he does not eat. But these were apparently irresistible for he took it. At home, Calhoun has to be kept separate from the other hounds for the first 5 days and we have to look very much with saliva, urine and feces. He now sleeps in "Cody's" room and is stretched out on his back on the Gelmatras. Brandir does not like this, who wants to cuddle him so much, but that is not allowed. With exhausts, therefore, it is also very careful that they do not smell each other and clean up stools. Once at home he had to get one and a half Cerenia tablet, this against nausea. A little half an hour later I finished his food and this went well with the drug Peroxicam, a painkiller and an inflammatory inhibitor. Happy. Calhoun has slept well, he is not sick, shows no side effects, his old temperature of 37.9 C has returned again and has eaten well today. It's going well with Calhoun, hopefully it stays that way.
How it goes with Calhoun.
Sunday, December 23rd, Calhoun’s scrotum starts to swell, and really very much! This is of course very painful and with a cold cloth I try to cool it. It does help something but it didn’t decrease a lot. Monday I go back for control, Rens gives a spray for it but this only makes things worse! Partly because he lays constantly on his good side, his skin soon starts to blemishes. First Christmas Day my sisters are coming to eat and I quickly call Astrid if she does have some baby powder or talcum powder. She got it and will bring it with her. Also I have some small strips of Terry and in combination with the powder I get Calhoun’s skin dry again. But it remains to be careful because the skin is well broken. I’m busy with it day and night because the last few nights he’s quite restless. Over time there are formed large crusts and on Friday morning it all looks much better, not so swollen and red.
I had been given antibiotics for 5 days, so on Wednesday evening he got his last tablet. Thursday the wound looks still beautiful, not thick, not red. But in the course of the Friday afternoon, red spots began to form and the operation wound looked a bit swollen. All this time Calhoun has had no increased temperature, 37.8 was the highest! But now it was 38.8 and I made myself great worries. Of course I immediately got new antibiotics, but that night Calhoun was very restless and his temperature had risen to 39 degrees. For a Deerhound really not good. It also seemed as if he was afraid in the dark and he slept again with us on bed. On Saturday we went to the vet again and he gave Calhoun an analgesic injection and said that I could increase the Tramadol (painkiller) something. Once home, Calhoun calmed down over time. Very calm, he seemed drugged! He didn’t feel like eating that night, despite the can of tuna I had stirred through it. Fortunately he ate the most, with the medicines. I was hopeful that Calhoun would sleep well, but after an hour and a half I heard him get up and jump off his bed, he insisted on sleeping with us. By the morning he started squeaking, he didn’t need to urinate. He continued to beep, even after he had been out and had eaten with long teeth. I was at the end of the board and sent an email to Cecilia van der Drift, the animal interpreter who helped me so well with Amy. Although it is Sunday, I received a mail a few hours later that she had some time for us tonight. In the meantime, Calhoun was happily quieter and sleeping.
At the end of the afternoon, Cecilia called and after half an hour I was not only reassured and a lot wiser but also Calhoun made a much quieter impression. The fear of Calhoun arises from the fact that he does not know what is going on with his body, everything feels different than normal. He has muscle pain (I thought so) due to the other load of his muscles and joints. He doesn’t have much pain but it feels irritated. However, he is relieved to get rid of his sore leg and he also understands why that happened. Cecilia also told him that when the chemo cure starts he gets all sorts of other feelings, but that eventually all comes well… and we’ll just stop there.
It is now half past nine in the evening, Calhoun is quiet, he has eaten well and is sleeping well, how long, we will notice that.
Will you keep your fingers crossed for us ??
It's going well with Calhoun.
Last night, by half past seven, we were able to pick up Calhoun. Operation succeeded, Hound still alive. Happy!! I always have the nerves anyway and certainly after Cwillyaigne! After discussing some of them, we heard Calhoun shouting, he had heard me and thought it was time to go home. When I came back, he got out of himself and got full confidence from his kennel. Rens had already said that he was looking at how Calhoun reacted in terms of standing up and moving but he was completely perplexed when Calhoun walked in the corridor and then with minimal help in the car jumped. That looked very promising! Once at home he did not want to urinate at first but right in and on his bed. He laid himself very smoothly and easily, without help. Of course I made a delicious meal for him, with lots of tuna through it, and he ate it all wonderfully. After one and a half hours he needed to do a pee. He thought I was nice to be outside and to "walk", he wanted to necessarily the fence and only 200 meters away he did a gigantic puddle. Immediately he turned around and "walked" back home at very high speed. At home he found that he was allowed on our bed (that's all sick hounds) and coaxed himself. I greased the sutures with Calendula ointment so that they would not irritate and soon Calhoun fell asleep. After a while he became somewhat restless and had to urinate again. That went fine again. The night is reasonably quiet. At one point he found the waterbed a little too hot and had a few hours in the kitchen sleeping on his bed. By five o'clock this morning he wanted to stay with me again and he was sleeping well until we were awakened by a squeaky Brandir who also wanted to have some attention. Calhoun has eaten well again this morning and has moved several times during the day. He's getting more and more handy on three legs, I'm really looking forward to seeing how quickly he has what he can and can't but actually he can do everything! However, I have laid a cold, wet rag over his wound several times, it is of course a gigantic bruising and cooling does wonders. To prevent him from licking too much, I throw a large, very thin towel over him or get a cut, airy, very stretchy trouser. Rens did not get the results of the biopsies last night, so it is a osteosarcoma. Hopefully it hasn't spread yet and heals the wound quickly so that we can start with the chemo cure. Do you thumb a bit for us?
Haloween coursing in Landstuhl
Haloween coursing in Landstuhl. On Sunday October 30th the Deerhounds would walk so on Saturday we could make another delicious forest walk. Grandma Amy had to fit on the caravan while we geklauterd two and a half hours over a gigantic steep mountain. Our muscles were in any case well trained once again! Also at Landstuhl the start of the course is on a field next to the racecourse. Then the hare passes through an opening of the fence of the racecourse the Middenterrein. If the hounds follow well totally no problem. After a round on the Middenterrein, the Hare enters the adjacent field by another opening in the fence. Some hounds are shooting the last opening, but they usually correct themselves and they come out well. On Sunday so 11 Deerhounds at the start. In The third course are Silva and Calhoun. Calhoun starts fine and runs fantastic. He lands with 80 points in a shared second place. In The fourth course is Cheytah with Chabibi's Nice. Nice is a very young, enthusiastic girl who follows well, Cheytah is pregnant and does not save in terms of speed. She thinks it is smart, but it passes the exit and loses the hare. She keeps looking and searching but does not think she should go through the opening. Nice get 83 points and Cheytah 47, fortunately no "rejection for the day"! In the next course Celina or Albainn of Gerd fuses and my Caintha. Now we have to be careful with the reception because Celina has already had a disqualification because of unheard-of behaviour. But I don't have to worry about it. Caintha runs very cleverly and is super fast, when she is near the exit she runs first and right behind the hare. Because of this she shoots the exit but sees in her canthus that the hare is right. She is not in doubt, plunges under the wire fencing of the track, takes a huge leap over the dense fence and lands on the little field where the hare continues his trail. Very spectacular! Unfortunately the jury is asleep, I think, because she got only 61 points. Celina apparently had only looked at Caintha, not the hare because he was still walking on the Middenterrein while Caintha made the kill. However, she still got 57 points. Jury…, I don't get anything from it (and that's good too!). In the second turn, Caintha again runs with Celina, even now Celina keeps up halfway and that gives her a "rejection for the day" on it. Calhoun starts with Cunamara's Mango by Eva Petzold. Mango flies off and Calhoun continues to stand. We still have the hope that he will be middenterreined by the exit, but that too does not happen. Also Calhoun gets a "rejection for the day". Cheytah is only classified and gets as a guided dog one that also remains. Cheytah is going to start well but at the first pass she remains standing. "Rejection for the day". Then you drive with two men, almost 2400 kilometers in front, to go back home with two "rejections for the day"!!! Fortunately, the eight and a half-year-old Caintha had saved the family a little. At the award ceremony, her last time was said goodbye, this was her last game. Caintha has always been a very reliable and excellent courser. [/caption] She has participated in a total of 77 games in many countries and in addition very many "fun" coursings. She has participated in 5 European Championships and has twice been in second place and 1 time on the fifth. She carries various beauty and coursing titles and is after Calhoun (her nephew) the second Deerhound in the Netherlands entitled to the title "Champion of Beauty and performance". And she deserved it!
Coursing in Bergschenhoek
On 24 September the WRZ held her coursing in Bergschenhoek. Again 4 Deerhounds reported but now partially others. In The first circulation Calhoun ran together with E'Lynnhe Palantiri of the family humps. Calhoun felt "something" and started badly. He is becoming more and more sensitive, which is certainly at the disadvantage of his coursingprestaties. Caintha ran with Islay's Hannah, also from the family humps. In the second circulation were Hannah (155 pnt.) and E'Lynnhe (156 pnt.) divided together. E'Lynnhe, who had just been running, gave up the chucked and got a disqualification. Caintha (152 PNT.) was allowed with Calhoun (149 PNT.). Again Calhoun started badly but Caintha walked so excited that Calhoun was still going along. Hannah became first with 311 PNT., Caintha second with 309 PNT. and Calhoun third with 279 pnt. Caintha obtained her second CACNL and in combination with the previously obtained show results I can get the title "Champion of Beauty and performance" for her applications.
3 shows in 1 weekend
From 1 to 3 September there were three shows at the WTC Expo in Leeuwarden. On Thursday the CAC show, Friday night the Sighthound evening Specialty and on Saturday the FCI Centenary European Dog Show. Wednesday afternoon we arrived all three, Sonja Hansen, Angelika Evertz and I at a wonderful campsite near Leeuwarden. Here at least we could also walk well with the hounds. When we arrived in the hall on Thursday morning, we first thought we were wrong. There was no greyhound to see and nothing was mentioned on the board at the ring. The rings around us were only spaniels and retrievers. But perched and a little later a Galgo appeared. When the ring staff came, it took a long time before there appeared on the board which varieties would be approved. At first, a wrong skin was hung so that many people thought that their race would be judged first but because we were at this board I could help those people out of the dream because first the Galgo and the Deerhounds would be judged here. André van de Broek approved the only Galgo and 9 Deerhounds. 1 Youth Deerhound was absent. Best male became Calhoun and best bitch and BOB became Fritzs Silver Cloud by Sonja. Silva became a Dutch champion with this CAC. Cheytah got the reserve CAC and Coney was second in the veteran class. [/caption] The evening Specialty on Friday I found a very successful party. The opening of this show was spectacular because the "Borzoi club Singer" performed the Wilhelmus in a very beautiful way. During the whole evening he cared for a wonderful music, which certainly benefited the atmosphere. People walked along to sing and dance and that in combination with the many very beautiful and appropriate attire, this made for a very special atmosphere. 10 Deerhounds were reported for Judge Dhr. A Land Arte from Uruguay. Best Male and BOB became Calhoun and best bitch became his mother, Cute Coney O'Cockaigne. Cheytah got the reserve CAC. On Saturday was the Centenary European Dog Show and our race was approved in the Ice Stadium. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was very clean. The 10 notified Deerhounds were approved by Mr. Espen Eng from Norway. For Cheytah and Calhoun no success but Coney got the reserve CAC and became best veterans bitch. In the honour ring became Coney 2nd best veteran of a piece of 40 veterans! Thus, Coney became also FCI Centenary European Dog Show veteran Winner and Dutch veterans Champion!
Coursing Show combination in Crown Mountain
13 and 14 August the combination of the weekend of the Coursing Association "T Haas" takes place to Crown Mountain. On Saturday the (unofficial) show for which only Calhoun and Cheytah are reported. On Sunday the coursing. It's weird but true, our hounds haven't been doing well in this field for several years. What is at wrong we do not know, perhaps not exciting enough, too clear, what obstacles do perhaps wonders. First with beauty and performance ends Cheytah, second becomes Fritzs Silver Cloud, third Caintha and as fourth, Calhoun, also with beauty and "performance" ends.
Cheytah Belgian Champion
On July 24th we travel to Liège the next day because Cheytah still needs 1 Belgian CAC. Unfortunately, the judge, Mrs Hanlon-Carroll from Ireland, Cheytah is not pretty enough and she gets the reserve. Calhoun becomes best male. At the beginning of November, however, the passed CAC van Cheytah falls into the bus so she has become Belgian champion this year!
